A throw that is too small looks lost; too big and it drags on the floor. The right size depends on where it lives.
Size table
| Spot | Throw size | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Armchair | 130 x 170 cm | Covers lap and shoulders, folds over the armrest |
| 2-3 seat sofa | 150 x 200 cm | Two people under one throw, drapes over the backrest |
| Single bed | 150 x 200 cm | Lies as a foot-end runner with overhang |
| Double bed (140-180) | 220 x 240 cm | Full-width foot-end layer |
The 3-layer rule for a made-up look
Layer 1: flat bedding or seat. Layer 2: one large textured piece (knit or woven throw). Layer 3: two to three cushions in different sizes, same colour family. Three layers read as styled; more reads as clutter.
Material in short
Cotton washes easiest (30°C), chunky knit gives the most texture but pills sooner, and a wool blend stays warm even slightly damp - the Dutch winter choice.
