Hanglampen

Above a dining table, leave 75 to 85 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the lamp. That lights the table properly without blocking your view of the person opposite - the single most common mistake in a dining room.

For diameter, about a third of the table width works: roughly 60 cm above a 180 cm table, or three smaller lamps in a row. Most models let you shorten the cord or chain; the available play is stated with the product. Bulbs are usually not included.

Frequently asked questions about hanglampen

At what height do I hang a lamp above the dining table?
Leave 75 to 85 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the lamp. It then lights the table without blocking your view across it.
What diameter suits my table?
About a third of the table width works well. For a 180 cm table that's around 60 cm, or three smaller lamps in a row.
Can I adjust the hanging height?
On most models you can shorten the cord or chain. How much play there is is stated with the product.
Do I need an electrician to fit it?
For an existing ceiling point you can often do it yourself, provided you switch off the circuit. If you're unsure about the connection or the weight, call in a professional.
Is a bulb included?
Usually not. The fitting you need is stated in the product description.
